[Read] ➭ All Things Wise and Wonderful ➵ James Herriot – Tactical-player.co.uk
Read all James Herriot books time and again, originally in hardback then on kindle They re a humorous easy read and can be dipped into almost anywhere and treated as short stories Even though I nearly always remember a story as soon as I start a chapter I still often laugh out loud. The idea has been copied by other vets, policemen, doctors and teachers but none come up to the original. In This Third Enchanting Collection Of Stories, James Herriot, The World S Most Beloved Veterinarian, Picks Up Where All Things Bright And Beautiful Left Off World War II Has Begun, And James Has Been Inducted Into The RAF We See Him At Training Camp And We Go Back With Him To Yorkshire On Real Trips As He Breaks Away To See Helen, Who Is About To Have A Baby, And On Trips Of Reverie As He Recalls The Dales, The Animals, And The Yorkshire People Who Have So Enriched His Life We Meet Old Friends Again His Partner Siegfried, The Zany Tristan, The Bon Vivant Granville Bennett And Scores Of New Folk, Each With A Story To Tell James Herriot Is Back And, As One Reviewer Said Of His Work, If Ever You Have Loved A Friend, Human Or Otherwise, These Stories Are For You I first read the books by James Herriot when they were first published, and I loved them They are funny, moving , and down to Earth Re reading the books has been a nostalgia fest for me, since I was born in1950, and can remember very similar conditions to those described in the memoirs I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone who loves reading, animals, and vanished times. I first read the James Herriot books about 30 years ago before the film was made and before the TV series I loved them so much I promised myself I d read them again They re just as enjoyable and far better than the film and TV series because the stories are so rich in description that you can imagine being there yourself They give you a very vivid insight into the lives and work of the people who are now long gone, and of course there is always a lot of humour together with the stories tinged with sadness. If you like animals you must read James Bedrooms escapades as a new vet Set amongst the beautiful Yorkshire Sales, James succeeds in bringing both the countryside and it s various inhabitants, both human and animal, to life The book will make you cry with sorrow and also laughter I didn t realise what a hard life a vet had back in the 1930 s not to mention the farmers in the Dales I am working my way through all the books in this series for the second time and am thoroughly enjoying the experience Recommended. I read these stories a long time ago on real paper Now, as I read them again on my kindle app, I seem to enjoy them all over again I don t know what it is about the stories that keep me coming back to them but I never tire of them. 40 years ago I read my first James Herriot book and have been hooked ever since I ve read them all several times over the years.,in paperback and some in hardback and now rereading again on my kindle Always a delight If you love animals, the countryside and people you ll love these and learn of many things you didn t know from history, especially the weird and wonderful medicines and treatments , many of which were used by human doctors too I expect. Reading this omnibus edition of James Herriot s memoirs brought back to me Sunday nights, watching All Creatures Great and Small when I was a child I never realised how closely the television series followed the stories in the books until I started reading and could visualise specific scenes from the programme I really enjoyed this trip down memory lane, both in terms of reading about the past and experiencing my own childhood memories Wonderful.
