My Yorkshire Great and Small (Yorkshire Vet) I really enjoyed finding out about Yorkshire, seen through the eyes of Yorkshire vet Peter Wright, whose mentor, eventual boss and friend was one the most famous authors and vets in our country, if not in the world, the famous James Herriot aka Alf Wight I have visited Thirsk and been to see the James Herriot museum, once the Skeldale Veterinary Practice where Donald Sinclair Siegfried Farnon in the All Creatures Great and Small TV series welcomed Alf Wight as a recently qualified assistant vet On the day Alf married Joan, Siegfried made him a full partner.Peter is a great advocate for Yorkshire It s been his home for his entire life, apart from his University days in Liverpool He is a tremendous font of knowledge about the area, including not only veterinary matters, but wildlife, history, geography, Yorkshire s famous characters, folk legends and His enthusiasm sparkles through this work of non fiction as he looks at Yorkshire as he knows it and also through the eyes of tourists He reminisces fondly about his boyhood and the immense changes that have occurred until the present day He returns to his favourite places and describes them so well an immediate image can be seen in your mind, bringing a smile to your face He talks about his lifelong friends and also his newly acquired friends He relates amusing anecdotes from his past He takes trips out in his precious time off work to familiarise himself with them, full of nostalgia and love He talks about incidents in his life as a trainee Vet and also of the move he initiated to the new Skeldale practice Darrowby in the James Herriot books He is full of compassion and makes sure to concern himself with local charities, full of concern and practical advice and help Now famous himself, he is able to mix in high society as well as with the general public and particularly fans of The Yorkshire Vet , a Channel 5 programme regularly shown on TV He is living his boyhood dreams and his love of Yorkshire is evident on every page He is a skilled raconteur and socialiser, although he confesses to being nervous he hides it well.I received this book through my membership of NetGalley and from publisher Mirror Books in return for an honest review Thank you most sincerely for my copy I recommend it as a lovely read for animal lovers, those who want to find out about Yorkshire and who love to watch Peter in his role as one of the Yorkshire Vets , as seen on TV It s a 4.5 review from me.
